“Living Joyfully” is a textured abstract oil painting on a custom-made wood panel sitting in a black pine floating frame. Felt pads have been placed on the back corners to protect your wall. D-rings and wire have also been attached, making it ready to hang.
In 2015, I sustained a Traumatic Brain Injury. Around a year later I started to paint as part of my rehabilitation. Painting initially helped to "unlock" my inner-self, thoughts and feelings that I found hard to express. Through continued recovery, painting has become a love and passion for me, I call it healing art.
This has been painted using a palette knife with many layers of paint. This painting expresses the joy of living and living joyfully … spending time with the ones you love and doing the things that you love. It’s about celebrating life and the moments of joy and happiness, sometimes large and sometimes small. It’s about paying attention to your feelings, being present and living mindfully. I have used a contrasting dark background between the abstract tree trunks, symbolising the struggles and challenges we also face. My hope is that the brighter, more joyful times outweigh the darker times to enable joyful living.
