Framed in a Victorian Ash floating frame
This is an oil painting on a custom-made wood panel. It is mounted on a raw pine backing frame. Parts of the natural wood grain have been preserved and incorporated into the painting (the tree). Felt pads have been placed on the back corners to protect your wall. D-rings and wire have been attached, making it ready to hang on your wall. This painting comes with its unique story and a certificate of authenticity.
I love to paint on wood. I study its contours and see what is already taking shape before my eyes. Then I paint the dominant part of what I see in clear gloss varnish – in this case it was a tree in the foreground. Then I let my eyes wonder to see the bigger picture and fill this in with my oils.
“The magical Grampians” was inspired by trips to Dunkeld. Nothing quite like winding around the corner of the road and being presented with this make-believe looking landscape unfold right before your eyes. The outline of this magical mountain range is so noticeable from any reference point. It’s particularly special when you find somewhere to sit and just take in the breath-taking view. You feel like you are entering a make-believe world, it doesn’t quite feel real. But it does feel awesome and carry your mind to faraway places. That’s the magic of nature!
I hope this painting captures that sense of “magic” and wonderment when you look at it.
